Tom and Kirsty?

Will they get back together again? Looking that way after last night. Poor old Tom. He knows he's a ready meal bore but he just can't help himself. I wonder if there's a CBT programme for people who can't stop talking about ready meals.

If they do it will be incredibly lazy writing. Poor Kirsty; in RL she would have moved to Edinburgh or Brighton after he dumped her, not hung around for YEARS carrying a dimly burning torch, being supportive, pretending to date other people. She never seems to have really liked anyone else except Sam. But SURELY Tom must meet other females just once in a while. I hope Tom and Kirsty is NOT a plan.

'New man in Ambridge - he works on a farm, his name is three letters long and ends in m, just like Tom's - he'll do.'

Poor Kirsty indeed.

Mega -dairy man (forgotten his name) is obviously going to be free, once the imaginary nature of his marriage is revealed. BUT, if I were writing it, Kirsty (and perhaps Elizabeth) would be knocked over in the rush by Helen - thus creating a beautifully convoluted conflict of ideals at Bridge Farm. And - have I misunderstood or is selling the Bridge Farm herd the best possible thing that could happen to Ed and Mike?

Not long to wait now - although it's rare for anything earth-shattering to happen on Sundays. Perhaps we'll hear from Ian or Caroline; that would be shocking.

i don't understand why the conversations recently between Tom and Kirsty haven't made any reference to their history. anyone new to the programme would have no idea. i seem to recall Kirsty getting royally fed up with helping out at supermarket sausage demos too, but maybe that was only Brenda. however it was only a few weeks ago that Kirsty tore into Tom in Jaxx for banging on about ready meals and boring poor Brenda to tears- " Tom, will you LISTEN to yourself?!" so what's all this sudden "I am genuinely interested" bollocks?

JMcJ You're absolutely right. I've always understood that Archers scriptwriters undergo an impressively long "apprenticeship" so I can never understand why they write as if all the listeners are either new or suffering from complete absence of memory. As I remember it Kirsty was extremely frustrated before they broke up, felt taken for granted and actually warned Brenda to stay well away if she didn't want the same thing to happen to her. All now seemingly forgotten. They've done the same thing with Ed and Fallon, to the extent that he was recently pouring out his troubles to her in the Bull. I don't understand how they can stand being in the same room!

Ooh, I never knew Tom and Kirsty and ed and fallon had history and I've been listening for 3 years now!

lilystem This is exactly what I mean! The writers are not helping you to enjoy the story! I've been listening my whole life and I imagine that for other long term listeners as well we carry on listening through the dull times or misguided attempts to SATTC because we are occasionally thrown a bone - in the sense of a story relying on what happened twenty years ago say, or a character growing in a satisfying way. Frankly if I had started listening recently - I would probably have given up.
