britax b-smart?

I was just looking on the britax website to find out more about car seats, and I noticed they do prams too. Wondered if anyone had the b-smart and what they thought of it?

I've got a pretty generous pram budget so don't mind paying quite a bit more for a pram than this (it says £299 at halfords) if its not a good option. My main criteria for a pram (I think! hard to know till baby arrives) are:

  • able to cope with some rough (albeit flat) terrain
  • a proper lie flat option for the first 6 months or so
  • easy to fold down
  • not going to be impossible on public transport (although I don't think I will be using buses loads)
  • easily reversible seat so baby can either face me or face outwards

We have a big car so boot space not a problem.

would love some feed back from anyone who's got one. I'm pretty sure we'll get a britax isofix car seat so although I wouldn't plan to use the car seat as a buggy generally, it might be handy occasionally.

would be really good to hear from people before I drag DH off to look at one!

I've got one and love it. But we only got it once DS was 4 months and could sit up as it didn't have a lie flat option (almost flat, not completely) - but you can get a carrycot for it.

It's great on rough terrain (even on a pebble beach)
Easy to fold but you have to remove the seat so a bit fiddly. I'd practice in a shop if I were you.

A bit wide for public transport - if you get the three wheeler (which I have), it's actually tricky getting up and down a step. You'd have to fix the front wheel (just flick a switch). We bought a maclaren for public transport.

Seat is very easy to reverse - we did it yesterday with DS still sitting in it when we were out on a walk. Just click, lift, turn and pop back on.

igglybuff can I ask which store you got it from? I had another look at the britax website and I can now see that they do a carry cot, which at least means its properly lie flat. But I am struggling to find a shop which sells them. The britax website says halfords are the nearest shop to us, but the website only shows the pushchair, not the carry cot

that's good news about the pebble beach, as I live about 2 minutes walk from one!

Hi tired I didn't get a carrycot but got the britax from mothercare online - had a look at it in mothercare first. Can you get to a mothercare?

ooo that you live near a beach! Yes, you just need to fix the front wheel for pebbles.

aha thank you igglybuff I've found the carrycot on the mothercare website, so that's progress at least.

there seems to be frustratingly little information on the britax website though, but there is a lot that I like about the pushchair so far, will definitely see if our local mothercare has one to look at

don't be too its a nice beach for walking along but the water is heavily used by shipping / yachts so its not really a swimming / playing beach, we still have to travel for that. But a pram that works on pebbles will definitely be a bonus

We ended up just looking at it as the online stuff was a bit pants.

Good luck with the shopping and enjoy the beach

I've got a Vigour 4+ which is the 2009 version of the B smart, and i love it! It's a dream to push, and once you've got the hang of it, a breeze to close. We took it camping recently and it even handled a sandy beach with relative ease.

I've had a fair few pushchairs over 3 DCs and i must say that this is my fave.
Mothercare tend to have them to look at, or at a baby show if you can get to one near you.

i love mine but i think that the seat unit is quite narrow- the 2009 seat is wider and i prefer it. but all in all i love it.

I've got the B-Mobile which is another one of their new range of buggies. I bought it for my mil who looks after DS on Mondays but I just took it away with me for a whole week on holiday. It's well built and sturdy and everyone is pretty happy with it. And really light due to the aluminium frame. So hopefully the B-Smart would be good as well.

thank you for all the advice, we finally made it to the shops and DH loved it too. We were completely sold on it by the time we'd finished playing with it. I loved how easy it was to lift the seat/ carrycot on and off, and it seemed pretty simple to fold. We've decided to get the carrycot as well although I think its barely necessary as the seat unit does fold pretty flat.
