Doubles on public transport?

Just curious...
I've seen a few side-by-side buggies around town, but I'm wondering how do people manage with those on public transport? How do they fit on the bus? or the tube?! Most of the lift doors and the escalators seem too narrow to be able to carry them...

i have a nipper 360 double and travel by bus a lot. i just go in via the back door of the bus (having checked with driver first). on the few occasions where we've got on a bus that has only a front entrance, they've been wheelchair-accessible, so there's enough room for the buggy that way*. it has never been a problem. we live in london, though, so not sure whether buses elsewhere are equally accessible.

*disclaimer: i would always give priority to a wheelchair user!

oops.

meant to add, though, that i've also never had a problem fitting it into lifts, though i wouldn't risk an escalator!
