Pushchairs

I am stuck - what will annoy me more...?!

... storage of a carry cot in a small flat OR not having a carry cot I can clip off and take into people's houses/church/restaurants etc

After much internet seraching and trying out of buggies (and posting on here - so sorry for another one!) I have narrowed down my choices.

I wanted a proper lie flat pram that converts to a pucshchair and the pushchair had to be rear facing. I am on a fairly tightish budget so set £350 as my absolute top limit (thus ruling out the fab bugaboo cam / bee and icandy cherry / apple )

I am down to, I think, the Obaby zezu pramette OR the Mamas and Papas sola plus carry cot.

Obaby is £180ish while the Mamas and Papas is £350 all in (inc carry cot), so that is a factor, although I can just afford the M&P (eek!).

Question is - what will annoy me more:

  1. Having to store an additional carry cot/seat in a small 2 bed flat (Obaby's seat becomes the pram while the M&S has two separate, solid, items); OR
  2. Not having an easily detachable carry cot (looks like the Obaby pram is not a carry cot you can clip off and transport about) that I can use to take baby into people's houses/church/restaurants etc without having to bother with a pushchair up steps and things.

????

Stuck!! And have no experience! Any advice appreciated!

I've never had a carrycot to carry into people's houses/church/restaurants

Most people carry just the baby or wheel the pram in

What about the Silver Cross 3D?

old style skate..the seat unit is all in one you can pick up secondhand well within budget.

Carry cot would be useful, but only for about 3 months, which in the life of a pushchair/pram, is nothing.

I wouldn't ever consider having a baby without a full carrycot because it makes me cringe to see babies sleeping on poorly padded pushchair seats. SIDs risk and for an adult, the difference between being pushed around in a double bed with mattress or a cheap £20 garden sun lounger. I know which I'd prefer.

I had a carriage pram and a pushchair with carrycot for my first (the pushcair/carrycot was for going on the bus) and I lived in a 1 bed flat.

My son lasted 6 months in his carrycot, and he's quite big.

The Obaby zezu does turn into a proper lie flat cot, it just can't be clipped off and carted about like a separate, hard case carry cot.

I def agree the baby should lie flat on a proper materess etc, I just don't know how much use the clip off and carry around aspect of the carry cot will be.

Hmmm....

How about using a cocoon from Phil and Ted like this
and slotting that into the pushchair. The baby can then be lifted out very easily. Mine never woke up and slep very well in it though not as a proper bed.
Personally I prefer a carrycot but agree that they don't get much use and are bulky.
Some prams have collapsing carrycots which would at least go flat when not in use. See Hauck Infinity or of course the expensive bugaboo Cam.

or you could go for the Maclaren Techno XLR plus softcot

Totally agree on proper lie flat, I love carrycots so I have one for ds. Not sure about taking it with you as if you are in the car if it's for short trips you carry bubs in car seat if walking then you take the whole pram unless you mean leave the chasis outside?? On a recent holiday I took the cam as carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping and left the chasis in the car but that's the only time I have used it like this, carry the baby in or lie them on a blanket??

Thanks carrielou2007 - I think I have decided I will go for the Obaby (with an extra moses basket matress to make the pram even more comfy). I just can't justify an extra £170 for the possibility that, for the first 4 or 5 months, I might need to carry the baby into someone's house in a hard carrycot while baby is asleep without taking the pushchair in!

Once I have the Obaby, I will post a review!!!
