Help - I can't unlock the front wheels!

I've got a Maclaren Techno XLR. We took it off road for the first time on Saturday and halfway up a bumpy gravelly hill (DH pushing ) I remembered that you could lock the front wheels so that they don't swivel round, making off roading easier. I did so, and it was, in fact, easier.

Come Monday morning, when I want to use the pushchair to go into town, I go to unlock the wheel swivel, but can only do so on the right hand wheel. When I push down the lever on the other side it goes down but doesn't click into place, so as soon as the wheel gets into the "facing forward" position it locks again.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there something really simple that I'm not seeing? Or should I take it back to the shop? It's only 6 months old.

I had the opposite problem with my silvercross pram (when I wanted them to be locked, only one would lock the other just kept on swivel)! had it repaired a few weeks ago actually, cost £20 to get new wheels put on the front.

I'd phone your local pram shop for some advice and see if they can fix it for free - it might be something really easy.

it sounds like there could be a small piece of gravel in there. Clean it out thoroughly and apply a silicon spray which could help the mechanism move a bit easier.

push down really hard as well- because it's effectively a hidden lock, sometimes it needs a bit more pressure to lock firmly.

Thanks, I'll give it a good clean tomorrow and see if that does any good.

For future reference, if anyone has the same problem, it wasn't really a problem . As DifferentID said, you have to push REALLY hard to get the lock on - it's not like the rear brake. I couldn't do it with my hand, and my foot didn't fit between the two wheels, so I had to use the side of my foot IYSWIM. Anyway, problem sorted and we're back to easy manoeuvering around corners.
