Waiting to buy a double buggy? Or just get one before birth. And which one would suit my needs!

Currently in the planning stage for #3, #2 is 19 months. Will be 2.4 or 2.5 at time of birth if TTC works out.

He still has a big long nap, and quite honestly, I can't see that stopping by that age.

We currently have a BJCM GT, and I was planning to get the car seat adapters and a maxi cosi pebble to use with it. Will also get a buggy board. This will be my choice for those quick journeys in to shops, in and out car etc. Will also get some sort of cocoon suitable for a newborn for longer trips (rather than carry cot which I found useless previously).

Realistically I'm certain we will need a double, but probably not often. And I'm likely to go for 2nd hand, and sell it on after use.

Initially I thought I'd get the BJCM double, but that can't take a car seat, and that is the most important thing for me.

I think the select could be an option. But 2nd hand they are going for well over £300, which I think is pricey. I'd only need one seat unit, raincover and maxi cosi adapters.

The other thing I need to bear in mind is our car - we have a CMAX which is our main car. We need to keep 2 prams in the boot, plus buggy board. So space would be a premium. I currently have the BJ plus a mac quest in there, which take up most of the room! Confused

Is there something better out there? I think the Donkey could be good, purely for then only needing one pushchair. But I love the BJ and am reluctant to get rid of it (as I'd have to sell it to fund a Donkey as they are seriously out of my price range 2nd hand, in fact I'd have to sell the quest too!).

I have slings as well, so slinging is definitely an option for longer journeys, but I found I had an inflexible baby last time, and naps and keeping him undisturbed were of paramount importance for everyone's sanity. So the car seat is our best solution, given most of our trips out are well within the recommended time limit for being in a car seat. Plus the pebble gives a better lay flat position.

Can anyone think of something which may suit us better? We live close to town, on a direct bus route. On mat leave I do sometimes use the bus - but not an issue if I can't. We have 2 cars, the other is a Fiesta, so double would need to fit in that for occasional use. Most of our trips are to shops, parks, swimming, soft play. Occasional walks in built up areas.

Make sure you don't have inflatable tyres if you're anywhere near hawthorn or brambles.

We don't go to places where that's an issue. Or I doubt we would anyway!

I thought I saw that you can now fit car seats on the new BJCM twin.

I checked on the BJ website and it said no.

I would wait tbh. By 2 years neither of mine used pram really anymore even though ds2 now 3 1/2 still naps most days. We just head home to nap as by then I want a rest also! ( we have 16 month gap and used single/ board/ sling combo. And glad we did as double would have jut been a waste after few months)

How old is #1, do they or their school runs need to form part of this calculation? I also got a bit caught up in the section about keeping 2 prams and a buggyboard in a c max boot... Is this what you currently do or what you would have to do when the time came?

Dd2 is 2y5m.. I could not have been without a double.. Well I could have but I would have been very grumpy Grin. It was useful for a good long time for #2 and #3 compared to 1 and 2 where we had a very much less defined set of places to be at particular times.

How would you feel about a buggyboard with a seat like the easy x rider?

No school runs here Grin DS1 is 12!

Currently have 2 prams in boot, but would have a single and a double plus buggy board if we went for the double option!

I would get the easy rider, that's my preference to be honest!

I'm thinking we won't be out an awful lot the first month so just to wait and see how we get on? I just worry that ill need one in a rush for some reason and I won't have time to wait for a 2nd hand one at the right price. Or won't be able to afford it on my mat pay!

Eeeek! I just don't know what the right thing to do is!

I've been using the mountain buggy duet with my #3and #2 (22 months apart) for the past year. I used it with the car seat adapter till she was over 6 months which was fab because the baby was high up facing me. The two of them have since enjoyed each other's company side by side and no one is underneath. It is a bit bulky when folded but I like the way it just pops up in one, no need to click in the seats. But the main benefit is the amazing narrowness, I tried the bugaboo donkey but #2 child was too big for it and it won't fit through doorways like the mountain buggy or a tandem.

My icandy peach2 fits in the back of my mini and can take a maxi cosi pebble (if you buy the adapters). I looked at the donkey which is really nice but it was too wide to get out of the door to shop!
