BabyStyle Oyster and Maxi Cosi Pebble compatibility

Hi there,

Has anyone out there managed to get their Maxi Cosi Pebble car seat to work with the BabyStyle Oyster pushchair frame (using adaptors)? Despite the claims for the adaptors, they don't seem to be compatible. :(

My wife and I are expecting our first child soon and a few months back we bought a Pebble, with one of the deciding factors being how many pushchair / travel system brands it was compatible with. Just this week, we bought a second hand BabyStyle Oyster travel system and (separately) bought the relevant Oyster-to-Pebble adaptors. However, when we came to try them out, the adaptors fitted fine into the clips on the pushchair frame, but didn't fit the Pebble at all.

Has anyone else had the same problem? Are the two simply not compatible? I'll be gutted if we've wasted money on an incompatible pairing, despite their claims to the contrary.

Thanks in advance for your help...

Mal.

Is it that the frame is in the way of the seat? Assuming the adaptors also fit the pebble at the relevant end then maybe what you need is the height adjusters as are used with the carrycot? I would ask babystyle through their fb page or something, i'm sure they will give you the info you need.

You could go into a shop and say "we're looking at the oyster but have the pebble car seat, can you show us how it fits on?". Then you will know if it is compatible or if there is something you are doing wrong.

There are different types of adapters for the oyster - one is for the Britax / Oyster car seat and the other is for the maxi cosi.

The adapters look very similar to each other - are you very sure you have the right ones?

Thanks for responding, everyone. Smile

@Ihateparties: The frame's not in the way of the seat. And I've also tried slotting the car-seat end of the adaptor into the Pebble while off the pushchair, but it didn't fit or secure properly. The ridge inside the Pebble's slot for this doesn't line up with the adaptor's channel (not even close) and reversing things just made the mismatch worse. I'll try Facebook - ta.

@lauren6283: Yeah, tried asking for a demo in Mothercare, but nowhere has any of the adaptors in stock - they say they have to order them in. :-/

@WinningBread: For the record, we got the adaptors we bought from an Ebay seller, the item being listed as compatible with the Pebble. Suffice it to say, they're now back in the post being returned for a refund.

My next move is to contact BabyStyle, I guess. I've already tried Maxi Cosi to see whether the adaptors might've been intended for an earlier model of Pebble, but apparently the seat design hasn't changed since launch in 2010, so that isn't the issue.

Fingers crossed BabyStyle can resolve it... Hmm

I had a similar problem with a an oyster & maxi cosi cabriofix, annoyingly the car seat clips fit on the frame 2 different ways but only one way is right.....& even then doesn't seem it. I really should have marked which side is which rather than getting really cross & looking a complete idiot each time I was in a car park!!!
I'd recommend buying them from mothercare, they'll price match competitors & then you know you 100% have the right ones

Well, after finally accepting that I simply must've been doing it wrongly, I caved in and bought another pair of adaptors, just like the first ones. After another failed attempt that almost convinced me I needed the aforementioned height adjusters, I gave it one last try and lo! ...it ...just ...worked.

Suffice it to say that mrsbee2be is totally awesome for pointing out that each adaptor does actually fit into both sides of the frame, but that one side's wrong and one's right. Can't believe I didn't spot this the first time, but thanks to everyone who tried to help out an idiot.

Stress over and in the nick of time, as the good wife is now full-term... :)

Thanks all!

Oh, and BabyStyle were useless. No response at all. Not impressed.

Well we have the maxi cosi Cabrio fix and the oyster. It fits just fine with the correct adapters. We have used it with two babies and it is still goin strong with no problems.
I love our oyster. We bought it with the adapters from the same place. Maybe see if you can find an independent store (ours came from one) that sells it to try and see if you can get it to work.

just to explain - the adaptors fit both ways into the chassis because they slot into the hole the seat unit does. the seat unit is reversible so the holes must be symmetrical

glad you managed it!

I have the Oyster 2. I have a maxi cosi from 2011. I have the universal adaptors... and I can not figure out at all how they fit together!?!?

Try every combo on the frame of the pushchair Steve. I had a problem with this which I resolved and apparently I advised the op a while ago too! It is just a FAFF and then suddenly works!

Thanks for the response!
I keep going away from it and coming back with fresh eyes and trying again.
One side of the adapter clicks in to the Oyster 2 fine. Very logical.

The part of the adaptor now sticking up in the air, waiting for a maxi-cosi to be connected just seems to have no conceivable way of connecting to a maxi cosi!?

Usually good at this stuff! One more try tonight and then I'm looking into buying a new car seat!

The adapters have to be angled toward the handle. The release buttons face outward. Then the car seat fits on top. I've had the Oyster with the cabriofix, and Oyster Max with the pebble. Never a problem.
