Fiat 500 - anyone know what pram will fit in the boot?

Hello,

I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby (a boy I found out on Tuesday) just thinking about getting prepared now.

We will need to get a pram and car seat, but I drive a fiat 500 - which at first everyone was saying I would have to get rid of and upgrade, but I really don't want too, it will be an extra expense and I am still paying off the finance on it.

I was wondering if anyone else has one, and whether they knew of any of the prams that fold down small enough to go in the boot. I have heard mixed feedback on squeezing in the iCandy Cherry - but am going to investigate that further.

If anyone knows of any that fold down small, please let me know.

Thanks XX

I test drove a Fiat 500 when I was pregnant. It is possible to get the frame of a Cherry in the boot if you take the back wheels off, but it's a bit of a faff.

What was almost impossible was getting an infant carrier in the back. The front seats don't fold and slide enough, so it has to go in at an angle. This was tricky with an empty car seat, so I fear it would be almost impossible with a baby in the seat.

You could try putting a carrier on the passenger seat with the airbag turned off, but make sure the seat belts are long enough.

There are several small fold pushchairs suitable from birth eg the Quinny Zapp Xtra, Petit Zia Plus and Leebruss Takeoff (using the car seat) which would undoubtably fit, but you would probably need to take some boot measurements to get more precise help with larger pushchairs. Is there a parcel shelf you can remove? Look at say the iCandy Peach, Baby Jogger City Mini or Britax B-Agile measurements to see if they would fit.
However my best suggestion is to take your car to your nearest small, friendly independent shop, park your car outside the door and ask to fit car seats in and pushchairs into the boot. I could only find one baby car seat to fit my car (with my husband in too!) but it took six car seats to discover that! Only a small handful of pushchairs fitted too. But playing narrowed the field down. Good luck!

Micralite Toro? I don't own one, but a friend of mine does and I think it collapses down to a pretty small size.

I have a fiat 500 and a dd (10 months). I bought a babystyle oyster as read that it fitted in small cars. Unfortunately it doesn't in the boot, but it will on passenger seat / back seat. Now baby is older I use a maclaren quest which fits in boot fine.

More tricky is putting car seat in back - I find I have to tip at an angle. Nowadays it just stays permanently in back.

Thinking now that I need to get a 4 door...Sad

I know that the Silver Cross Halo fits in the boot of a Fiat 500 and it's 32cmx52cmx82cm folded, so use that as your basis to see what else will fit. You may fit something a tad bigger but I don't know how much room the Halo leaves.

A seed pli will. Not sure where you can get one atm. Google "seed pli" or look at the video for it on you tube. It has a 3d chassis fold. The also make one with fiat wheels!

Or wait for a new YoYo??? They have a teeny fold but I not know if they are suitable from birth.

You can get skis for the Seed Pli too! How much fun would that be?!

Seed pli on ebay from a proper pram shop, half retail price (theyre usually expensive, near £1000!). I used to have one. The quality is fab. They're Scandinavian. Great for cold weather.
However if you are over 5'8" you may find the handle a bit low. The wheels and chassis are good quality as is the convertible pram to pushchair unit.

I can safely say the iCandy peach won't fit in a 500. I have upgraded my KA to a seat Ibiza cos the boot space is massive and even then in the peach when I went to test then it still involves taking wheels off. Same with Quinny buzz.

I had a Fiat 500 and ended up buying a giant Volvo after a few weeks of struggling with the car seat.

It's also a really good idea to think about the lifestyle you think you'll have when you become a mum. I went to the trouble to get a car the right size for our pram (I did need to trade up from a 2 seater anyway). DS is now 4 1/2 months old, and the pram has been in the car no more than 5 times. I walk everywhere, and occasionally hop on the bus - I never thought I'd enjoy the exercise so much!
