Maclaren techno XT - is it really that good?

I recently purchased a Mac techno XT off ebay after reading some good reviews. I wanted a new one but my husband is a bit stingy sensible with money so we went for the second hand option. After having a good look at it im not sure I like it - feels a bit clunky and wobbly, smells a bit mildewy, heavier than I thought and also no chance I could fold holding baby. It is in fairly good nick but its older than I thought so doesn't have the nifty extra sunshade either. It was a bit of a panic buy as going on holiday soon and realised my current pushchair is not at all practical for going to the beach, on buses etc.

What should I do? Will I love it once I've used it and will it therefore redeem itself and overcome the fact its not shiney and new? Im sure I could get used to the feel of it just very different to the smooth sturdiness of my travel system. Alternatively I could wack it back on ebay and get either a brand new one (if it really is that good!) or go for something else (I did fancy the Microlite superlite)

What do you reckon?

we have had ours for 2 years and love it as much as the day we got it. It replaced a maclaren triumph that we got new and was sent back with much rejoicing when the brake broke.
I find it solid, reliable and love the reclining seat, adjustable handles and general robustness of it. Definately a best buy for us. Try it for a bit and if you really don't like it am sure you won't loose much putting it back on ebay

Hello! We have just bought a Cosatto stroller called the 'Bob'. It was great on our holiday and it comes with a free mosquito net and has a sunshade aswell. It's only 6kg and it reclines (multiple) :-). Only £89.99 from Kiddisave, an online shop

You should be able to fold it whilst holding a baby too!

Ok

Brakes on.

KNock the fold up with your foot whilst holding handle. Hold handle and knock side fold down, push forward. Honestly you can!

I agree though, sounds like you have smelly second hand (not all are smelly second hand btw) regret - been there!! Buy a new one if you can or near as damn it.

I've had mine for 6 years. It has been used virtually every day, shoved in and out of cars the car, taken on planes and generally man-handelled. It still works absolutely fine. I have no problem folding it while holding a baby or a wrigglying toddler.

I think they are great.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like you all like it and its worth sticking with.

Going to give it a bit of a scrub and try it out on holiday. Hopefully I will love it by the time we come back.

You can take all the covers off and put them in the machine - even the hood, put it in a pillowcase I bet you would love a more up to date version. Can you go in Mothercare and have a play with one?

Mine is over 6 years old, has taken a battering and still going strong.

I agree with the others give it a good wash then see how you feel. You can also pimp them up with a nice new comfort pack (head rest and straps).

I love mine I think I will get a new one for DS once I don't need a double.

Loved mine. DD is five now and I still miss pushing it, I walked miles with it, had DS on a buggy board with it, used it in rain and snow, had the most spectacular cozy toes. I feel all sad and nostalgic. Pushing techno xt really is the major thing Miss about having a baby/toddler. I still have it in the loft, I may get it out and borrow a baby!

I don't like them!

Even brand new they feel flimsy. especially with the handles raised

I Much prefer the quest.

I have never ,liked mine either - nor has ds1 & 2. Both big boys, both look as if they are going to fall out. The swivle wheels always get caught in shops & door ways. The leg extender things on mine never stay extended.

I LOVE my bjcm double and wish I could afford to buy the single version!

Am with fio and hevester- was my first pushchair (have a quest as spare) and love it. It does sound like might be takes time to get used to.
