Want to change estate agent without incurring multi agency fees

Basically we're not impressed with our estate agent. We've given them notice to end the agreement, got 4 weeks left I think. We've had 1 viewing in 2 months and they haven't even put a board up. Actually they think they may have put one up next door by mistake.

I know these things vary according to the contract, but as far as I can see we can hire another estate agent and not pay the current one anything as long as we don't sell to someone who was introduced to the property by our current agent. So we need a list of names of anyone who contacted them about our property and then we just make sure we don't sell to any of those people?

Has anyone changed agents and successfully avoided multi agency fees?
