New front door - London

Could anyone recommend me someone in London who could supply and fit a new front door inc locks to my lower ground floor maisonette door? I have a budget of around £1,000.

I'm also tossing up between composite and hardwood - if anyone has has any experience with either I'd be grateful for your advice. I want a mortise lock which narrows the composite choice considerably to Veka and Solidor from my internet research.

I'm doing some research into this at the moment myself. Mine has been drilled for new locks so many times over the years it's more filler than door. All the paintwork is bubbling and peeling and the glass has that awful institutional steel wire in it.

I've been told to go for hardwood if I want it painted, and a joiner will make me one from scratch for half the price of buying one from a specialist company. Who knows where to find a proper craftsman joiner in London though, I know I don't .

I've also looked at Voysey & Jones and the London Door Company so far, but not been convinced by either. London Door Company doesn't get much love on MN, that's for sure. Their prices are obscene, probably beyond your budget which is bigger than mine .

Has any body used the Ayrton Door & Window company to replace a period door with fan light?

We tossed up between hardwood and composite and eventually went for a Rockdoor which we absolutely love, anthracite grey, very secure. It cost about £1500 but that was because we replaced a lot of glazing too. Very very happy with it.

We have a Rockdoor. It's fantastic! Cost £1100.

I'm not in london but we have a rockdoor too and every single tradesperson who has set foot in the house since it was fitted has mentioned it. They are quite expensive but totally worth it. Ours has also survived a major building project completely unmarked so I'm slowly being convinced on the longevity front too.

Is it a period maisonette? If so I'd be inclined to try to find a reclaimed door in roughly the right dimensions. Much cheaper

I have used Todd Doors for internal fire doors and been happy with the price and quality. I am planning on changing the back external door and buying one of them.

I ended up getting a local joiner to supply me a new 38mm hardwood door, with a fan light and bought my own locks from Franchi. The joiner fitted door, frame, locks and painted it with the paint we chose. Total cost about £750 although the locks were £100 alone.
