Where do you get the best deals on carpet? Definitely can't afford wool but need to replace large area of heavy traffic carpet. Probably about 60sq metres (3 rooms) all same carpet.

All help/ guidance appreciated.

Find a carpet shop which sells remnants, in my local one they are half the price. However you may not be able to get enough to cover all three rooms I. The same carpet.

We have had all our flooring, carpets and vinyl, from Carpet Right. They own some of the carpet manufacturers and always have deals on.

I've priced remnants in an independent carpet shop and CR were cheaper. We buy our own underlay and gripper rods online. My DP is good at measuring up so he's always done that. We've borrowed samples from them to help decide on colours and textures in key rooms.

CR also have cheaper carpets on a roll which you can buy and takeaway as well as carpets they order in for you.

One thing I will say, our local branch a couple of miles from us is useless - the bigger branch which is a bit further away is much better and we've built up a relationship with one of the sales guys over the years.

I was sceptical, but DP insisted they were fine and they have proven to be so.

We used CarpetRight (5 sqm) but bought our own underlay, gripper rods and door rods. Would have been to have their underlay to the depth I wanted (it was for a loft room) but online was cheap and they weren't fussed at all. Fitters were punctual and not terribly expensive.

Agree with Mummy - the fitters have always been punctual and professional.

Surprised by Carpetright recommendations tbh. Used them last time and two small rooms (pretty basic carpet & underlay plus fitting) came to almost a grand.

Well buying the underlay there was your first mistake! If you got their ludicrously overpriced gripper rods and threshold bars that was your second. I did two biggish rooms for ££350 including fitting and about £150 on gripper rods and underlay. About 30sqm and I have tons of underlay left. Also had leftover carpet which has been handy in the loft over boards.

Go to a back street carpet shop. We always go to one in the dodgy part of B'ham which is basically a warehouse. Did similar size to what you are after in wool with grippers and thick underlay - it was 480 + 80 fitting.

Bloodly hell creamtea - I think that's more than we paid for three bedrooms and the living room. We have never bought underlay from them. Our rooms are a good size too.
