Partly from nosey interest and partly from half-term boredom, I have been browsing the internet looking to see just how much money you would need to buy the cheapest 3 bedroomed house anywhere in the UK.
It all started thinking about the "mortgage/rent free dream" & then moved on to "where could we move to to make that happen quicker" 
.
Anyway, this is the lowest price house I have found so far (unless I've missed something, and the price is only for the garage or something).
The only rules are that is has to be a whole house & must have at least 3 bedrooms.

There were two houses in Middlesbrough that were being sold with guide prices of 750 and 1000 last year

Wow! Silly me thinking £9500 was a bargain .
I actually think the £1 house idea is a very good way to improve a run-down area, at least in the short term, as the people who buy them will be no doubt putting considerable time, effort & money into refurbishing and then live in the property for 5 years. That should mean that the area is inhabited by people with a real pride in the home they've (almost) built.
I wish I'd known about the Stoke deal when it was going on - that's almost close enough for me to consider!
Can you imagine what would happen if a similar initiative was introduced in London? Stampede anyone?
