Stoves

I've been doing some research and it seems we need an 8 or 9kw stove for the room we want it to go in.

Can anyone recommend a make, or is there not much in it? Also, is it better to have a wood burner or multi-fuel?

Multifuel means you have to get rid of acidic coal ash, you can't just compost it, must be stored safely until cooled & then into the bin (more faff than wood ash which I think cools faster as well, i think). Ours is multifuel, but we'd never use coal. Might appeal to some, though.

Spend some time looking at steel vs. all cast iron too, they have different characteristics.

Look at vent features, they vary & some are easier to use than others.

Otherwise I'd see what a good installation company recommends.

Thanks very much, good idea about the installation company. Am having a sweep round for both fires so will also ask their advice.

I thought this was about stovies. I was just coming on to give you my recipe. Probably a sign that I've had too much Hogmanay alcohol already.
