Any experience of Brook Green/Holland Park area?

Am living atm with DH, 2 year old DD and twins on the way in a 2 bedroom house in Fulham, and have been thinking of moving to a bigger house to fit us all in. Due to lots of scrimping and saving our budget will stretch to £1.5 million, which in Fulham would buy us a large enough house but we feel it isn't central enough for us and we've grown a little bored of it!
We have been looking at the more expensive area of Brook Green/Holland Park, and we'd love to know what people think of this part of town - besides the obvious beauty and leafy streets - and whether our budget would stretch to a bigger house (I have a sneaking suspicion it won't). We'd preferably want a 4 bedroom house with good garden. If I am correct in thinking we probably won't afford this are there any other nice areas which are central but less overpriced? DH works in the city, near Enbankment.
Thinking about schools, we will be choosing the private path, and I know that some of the best independents in the country are in Hammersmith area (I went to one of the girls' schools).
Thanks so much for your help!

Holland park is definitely out of your budget of 1.5m Shock - have a look at rightmove! Buy you could get something in Shepherds Bush/Hammersmith which is walking distance to Holland park, though I think a smallish 3 bed rather than 4 and not in the best condition. Brook Green is nice enough, even though borders a downmarket bit of Shepherds Bush, again 4 beds not realistic but 3 bed at a stretch maybe. I prefer HP/BG to Fulham - better trasport, better variety shops all around/neighbouring, wider streets than Fulham (with some exceptions). I really like Chiswick/Stamford brook - it's not strictly central but very good position for transport to get everywhere! sorry if this is a bit negative but london has gone crazy with the prices!

Why, specifically, do you want to be more central? Your life with dc will likely thrive with the larger house/garden that you want - which are much more affordable away from the centre.

You can easily take the tube/train into the centre (or drive) when there is something special you want to do.

Finally, if you think you'll go the private school route with 3 dc (and all that entails), my advice is don't stretch yourself to the absolute limit with a mortgage.

What about a garden though? In Fulham for £1.5M you might get a decent sized one ie not effectively a small terrace out back.

it all sounds monopoly madness to me

london house prices are crazy, i did fear that HP/BG would be too expensive. Have had a look on rightmove for houses in BG and the only 1.5 one is a tiny cottage with little yard out back so probably not the best idea...we could get a lovely mansion flat however Grin we were thinking more the HP side of BG - not the bits by the less pretty SB...
We want to be more central because of museums, hustle and bustle etc, we have grandparents who live in the country and a very very small cottage (2 bedroom) in oxfordshire so it would be nice to have the hustle and bustle of the city during the week. is hammersmith/shepherds bush less expensive?

NewMummy, why are you asking on here? Why don't you just pop into Foxtons or Frank Knight?

And why on earth do you think Fullham isn't central enough? Confused

No, your budget won't stretch very far iin BG or HP.

just had a look at Amelia's thread - very funny, if she is real I may have to house hunt with her...
Although she'd be looking at much nicer houses than me and I'd probably be very jealous Envy

Hmm

Is a BG estate agent trying to drive traffic to Rightmove? Finlay Brewer, is that you?

Cut asking prices 20% and you might start seeing some activity.Grin
