Oak or Walnut flooring?

Don't know which to put down in 2 rooms, ideally the same floor but one very large and south facing and another north facing and medium size. DH thinks that walnut is fashionable now but is already dating and prefers oak. Its a modern house so I think putting oak in may not be right. Needs to be very hard wood so no to bamboo and hate anything with too much yellow.

we have oak in a 10 year old house. looks nice. isn't walnut quite dark? oak is very popular - my neighbours have it as well - their house is the same age

oak - timeless and works with everything... walnut already dated imo, and friends who have it get a lot of scratches.

have you looked at smoked oak? it's darker but i think not as dark as walnut.

I would say Oak is more dated - it's everywhere from floors to furniture, you really can't get away from it. Real walnut is too expensive to be dated, but it's also soft - so not quite so practical.

Pinkcushion I agree oak is everywhere at the moment. walnut is probably too soft. I will look at the smoked oak especially for the south facing room that could take a darker floor I think. Trying to find a floor that looks good if it scratches which it will do.
