A mouse just ran across the floor and into the fireplace. If I block off the fireplace will the mouse/mice just get trapped and die in there? We had mice at our old house and tried humane traps, which didn't catch anything. We ended up enticing a neighbourhood cat in, which got rid of the mice but left us infested with fleas. I can't believe we've got frigging mice again. Aaaaagh.

A mouse can get through tiny gaps so you'll have to make sure every single gap is closed off if you want to trap it. It'd be far better to put a trap down.
