Loft Extension - help

TheseThingsAreGoodThings · 14/02/2011 17:02

We are planning to extend upwards.

I have no idea about layout of the space - we are planning to have a bedroom / bathroom / storgae space.

Are there any useful books / magazines / websites that can give me ideas?

When I was getting quotes done, I arranged with the (recommended) loft companies to see their finished lofts. It was very useful to chat to the customers, see how they used their loft space and ask about how they found the whole process.

Some people use architects and then use builders but I have to say we had no problem using a loft company. They usually have good ideas and will help you with your plans.

We used a loft company in our last house, and are about to use them again (we moved last September). They sent a Surveyor to check out the space, do quotes etc - and he made some suggestions and we got to see his rough plans before agreeing to use the company.

If you are not using a company, you will need an architect - in which case they will help you with layout ideas. To be honest, in terms of where to put the loo/where to put the window etc there are usually not that many options anyway - it probably wo'nt be as complicated as you think Smile

Am sure there are loads of magazines/websites, though.
