Anyone swapped a window for french doors and knocked out the bit of wall?

How much did it cost? Mum is buying a house but the livingroom is at the front, bedroom at the back (bungalow) but the same size soI said she should swap them and change the window for french doors. THe window is wide so would only need to roughly take out the brick underneath. Mum says her friend said it would be £15,000 , I have priced the doors at £900-1400, so how much roughly does nyone know for the labour/finishing? THanks

I'm having the same done as part of a whole lot of works (new bathroom, kitchen, internal remodelling etc.) and have been quoted £380 for the removal and installation, although not for making good which will be priced once the damage has been seen. Door will cost roughly £700 The window is narrower but tall, so not much brickwork to remove and no structural work needed.

We had a window the full width of the wall, and had those and the wall underneath taken out to put in folding doors. The lintel was already there. The people who made the doors took the wall out so the whole thing was £2400 for the doors (bespoke, wooden) and installation. Can't see how having the wall taken out is £15000! Maybe a few hundred at most. And if the door people hadn't done it we have friends with equipment who would have done it for us - it's not a big job really.

We're taking out a window, making the hole a lot bigger (requiring RSJ) and putting two sets of french windows in....£4700.

We did ourselves so only cost the doors & some plaster but it was a days work for inexperienced people so simple job for a builder & shouldn't cost much

I think it would take a competent builder a day.Buy the doors yourself they won't be more than 1000 if you want upvc. Then fit the doors and make good the plasterwork.I would think 350 max for a days work plus any materials probably just silicone and plaster

We paid £1k about ten years ago to replace a big window with double doors. Took best part of a day for the company and included all the making good.
