Trying to find a house

Sure there was a thread a while ago about putting notes through doors letting folk know you are looking to buy a property if they are interested in selling. I've been looking for ages and just can't find the right place - I know the streets I really want to go to and folk seemed to think it was fine to put a note through doors. Interested to hear experiences of anyone who has done this or what you would think if you got a note like this. Would you put what your price limit was and how would you word things?

I'd say:

Dear homeowner

We are a young family/couple (whatever describes you and makes you sound appealing) who are hoping to move into this area. We are have recently sold our own home/are currently in rented accommodation (whatever is the case) and can move quickly.

Please let us know if you are considering moving in the near future - we would love to live on this street.

I would give a phone number and email (some people will be shy of just calling out of the blue) and play up any positive 9we have a mortgage agreed/are cash buyers and we are just waiting for the right house to come up). Don't make it sounds too formal or impersonal or you will sound like a developer or estate agent trying to cadge extra business.

On the downside, I've tried this a few times and never got anywhere; on the plus side, it worked for my mum.

I've tried this, on three streets. Wrote a note similar to the above. We didn't put our budget but did say our buying position (chain free etc).

Closest we got was one person who said she might be thinking of selling, but in the end decided to rent.

Otherwise, zero responses.
