skirting boards

We are having the hall decorated next week..Wallpaper and paint. Only taken 2yrs since we moved in!

I have managed to persuade DH to get a new carpet up the stairs too which we plan to do after its been decorated.

We have Oak skirting boards which look lovely next to our Oak doors and Oak hardwood floor downstair but the skirting bit up the stairs has been painted with a wood effect that basically looks abit naff. I plan to pain it white as this would look much better.

Would it be easier to remove the carpet now and paint the skirting before the decorator comes next week?
Would mean no carpet for a few weeks but could live with that.

Would it be best to gloss first before the wallpaper went up?

DEFINITELY! you will really regret it if you end up with a tatty line ! Deffo take carpet out first. Re glossing before wallpaper goes up - same applies deffo yes!

Cool, that what I thought :)

DH has just thrown a spanner at my plans though... hes reminded me about all the gripper rods that will be exposed. With a 2.5 yr old and a crawling 8.5 mth baby its going to be an accident waiting to happen!

Looks like it will be a two stage approach... top half of the skirting before the decorator comes, bottom half when the carpet comes up just before fitting the new one.

These damn kids are so inconvenient! Grin

Hi - being mid house renovation ourselves I thought I would post. I would pull current carpet up and back, paint the skirtings and when dry push the old carpet back onto grippers to cover up the hazard but don't worry too much about getting it back under skirting , door bits etc. This is what we have just done upstaits to repaint our skirtings. We are replacing the carpet but not yet but wanted to get all the painting done. Hope you get it sorted.
