Loft Conversion - would you recommend your builder?

I'm looking for one last quote for a simple-ish (I hope) loft conversion. There are so many building companies around, but I don't know which are good and which are dodgy!

If you live in S. Cambs / N. Herts or Central Bedfordshire and you've had a loft conversion that you're pleased with, would you let me know who did the work?

Also - if you've had work you've been less than pleased with, can you let me know which companies to avoid?

I had a loft conversion done 3 years ago by Econoloft and they were fabulous. We are in Sussex and although their joiner (who basically ran the project) lived relatively close to us the rest of the team came from all over the country so I'm sure they would cover your area.
Am abroad at the moment so don't have their contact details but pretty sure they have a few offices, one in London(ish) area and one up north somewhere.

If you have a quick search, there was a thread on here a few weeks ago about them specifically and I think a few MNers recommended them.

I'd get a specialist company in to do it, I seen some right messes made by builder, jack of all trade types including in my own house.
Whenever I've tried to save money it never works out :(

We are using Ideal Lofts and are very happy with them so far - loft not quite finished yet but they seem quick and well organised.

My neighbours (in SE London) used a builder to do their ground floor and loft conversion who was so lovely, and who did such a good job, that everyone else in the street took his details and he now does everything for all of us. Happy to PM you his details if you'd like. He's a small outfit, his team are from Poland, he is really reasonable, and immensely courteous. I think if you're going to have upheaval in your house, you need to make sure you can get on with the people causing it! I don't know if he'd cover your area but a phonecall to him will answer that soon enough.

We used SMA(Scott Mcabe-google and you will find their website)lofts based in Ealing-I think they do Herts too. They were excellent-very professional, would highly recommend them. All the electricians/plumbers they used were also very good and they made the least mess as possible.

Thank you so much for all your replies - that's a great help. We've had a quote from Econoloft which looked reasonable, but thereistheball I'd love the contact number, thank you, and vinegar I'll check out SMA.

Thanks again. Any more for any more?

We used Lindum Lofts in Ealing. They were brilliant and we're really pleased with the job.
