Re-do bathroom now or wait for extension to be built?

Hi,

I want to completely re-do the bathroom and want to do so now.

We are also planning an extension (kitchen-diner), plans with pre-planning atm but could be tied up with planning permission (Grade II listed cottage)

DH thinks we will save on labour costs if we do the bathroom at the same time as the extension. I'm not so sure as the hours needed to do the job will surely remain the same regardless.

Any opinions from seasoned renovators please? (would-love-a-new- bathroom-now emoticon)

TIA.

It will probably be cheaper and will definitely mean less upheaval if you do both projects together. I'm with your husband. (Nothing to stop you buying a really great suite in the sales though Wink.)

I have just done the same thing.Builder came to start on extension and planning permission was cocked up by my architect so he was diverted towards bathrooms.2 bathrooms later and a fair bit of internal configuring and reroofing he is still here.He started in september and i now feel i need my house back. There are pros and cons for both. However i would have thought you would get a better price for both as most builders prefer long-term projects in these uncertain times - but that is not always the case.

You might save on labour costs if you wait but equally it might be nice to have a decent bathroom in the meantime.

We dont have a good working bathroom yet (our house is what you might call a work in progress) and I do find it is quite depressing not even being able to have a good shower in the morning, so in your shoes, I'd get the bathroom done asap.

i would get it done at the same time. you'll save of labour costs AND also save on costs of material cos they'll be able to buy in bulk.

i'm thinking of getting my bathroom redone, any good places to get ideas apart from the usual magazines?? DH wants something modern with a jacuzzi bath and marble everywhere! should be lovely but i want to put my stamp on it. after all i'll be the one in the bath using it Smile Wink
