What is going on?? No sportswear section in girls' M&S schoolwear???

That's it really. I need to get DD some new cycling shorts for school PE. None at all in our M&S (ie the shop) so I looked online - there isn't even a section for sportswear for girls!

Oh yes there is sportswear in boys' schooliform. Oh yes indeedy. We like our boys to be sporty you see.

Whereas our girls must just sit there looking pretty in their dresses and matching check-trimmed socks and not get themselves mussed up by running about, oh no....

(On a related topic, where can I get cotton cycling shorts for5 school PE? Have tried Next (not available in shop), Sainsbos and Asda.)

(goes off to look online)

I have always bought school uniform, inc PE kit, from M&S, Asda, Next etc before.

Mothercare

Thanks soupy, not been to Mothercare for a llooooong while.

Had no idea they went that big!

I do wonder why every store (almost) seems to think I want 2 pairs tho. DD's last pair are too small. They are Not Worn Out!

I know - DS1 had to have 2 pairs from Tescos last time. Happily, he appears to have lost one pair so it turns out 2 pairs was a good idea

I've not been in Mothercare for ages either. I remember seeing them in there when shopping for DS1s uniform when he started primary school - he's in Y6!

John Lewis definitely do school PE wear for girls

Shaz10 · 13/04/2010 21:04

Oh yes, Decathlon will be cheap. If there's an independent sports shop in your town then they'll probably do school uniform too.

Have you tried the Trutex website?

Mid-year (i.e not Aug-Sept) they often have sales

Yes, I was a bit when I was ordering DDs uniform online and wanted some PE socks... none for girls - didn't occur to me till I went into the store that they were of course on the boys rack. Duh. It makes some sense to have them just in one place physically but it would surely be easy enough to list unisex items twice online.

wozel, M&S doesn't do cycling shorts for boys.

They are more of a girls' thing I think (I wouldn't put a boy in them )

BHS looking good too, will go there next time have DD in tow (she needs to try them on as apparently she is an odd size again - ie skinny!)

I bought DD some cycling shorts from M and S last summer - so they have deleted the whole idea of girls' sports since then.

Shame on them.

I emailed them.

"Dear Mrs Dragon

Thank you for your email regarding the lack of Girl's sportswear currently available on our website.

I am very sorry that we do not currently have any sportswear available within the girlswear range. I do appreciate that this is far from ideal and can assure you that this matter will be addressed. Here at Marks & Spencer we are constantly updating and changing the ranges available and sadly from time to time this does result in a gap within a range.

I have today raised the issue with the relevant department and am assured that they are actively working to resolve this matter."

Oooh, but to compensate, girls have a Communion Accessories section so they can dress up as the bride of christ in white frock and veil.

soupy thanks for doing that.

I should email them as well.

Found some cycling shorts in Asda today (I think they have increased the range on the shop floor since I looked 2 weeks ago!?!) but I still had to buy two pairs!

Maybe will donate one to another mum in similar situation

I bought these cycling shorts from M&S online for DD last month, so it must be a pretty recent thing! It looks as though they were in the sale as they were discontinuing them.

I have also bought some from Next, and you can have them delivered to store for free.
