NC Levels - would appreciate a teacher's view - a bit AIBU

Following a Parent consultation where we were told my dc was making good progress - and it was clear from my dc's classwork that this was the case, we were given the NC levels. When I checked my records I discovered that not much has changed since July 09 in term of levels. I was slightly confused and concerned by the apparent contradiction and I have made a follow up appt with dc's teacher for after Easter.
However, one other parent was a little quicker on the uptake that I and challenged the levels at the consultation. She was told that the levels were taken from an assessment completed at the beginning of January!!!
Is it possible the teacher is assessing my child correctly on a daily/weekly basis but only does the NC level paperwork once a term - is this the way teachers work? Am I being unreasonable to expect up to date NC levels at a meeting about my child's progress and if the levels are out of date for whatever reason, should they not have been given with a warning that they were 12 weeks out of date!!!

It is usual to update records between 3 and 6 times a year, and it isn't very sensible not to update before a parent consultation. It's also a little strange that none of your dc's levels had changed at all between July and Januuary - didn't you ask why not? (Particularly since there was obvious progress in the books).

Sorry - have reread and noticed you found the discrepancy when you got home.

I don't know what method of assessment is.

Slightly reassuring that the teacher doesn't need to be regularly updating NC levels to be assessing a child correctly. Although given she didn't want to move my child up a Maths table because that would leave too few children in the lower ability group, my faith in her is being tested.
