Arts and Crafts

I'm a mum who doesn't find "playing" very easy. I don't have the patience or the imagination required for it tbh.So dd and I tend to indulge in Arts and Crafts when doing activities together besides reading and board games (I can manage them)Reassure me that all this sticking,gluing and creativity is enhancing her development and there are benefits for dd's education. Failing that tell me what sort of play I should be doing please

As long as you're interacting with her than you are enhancing her development. I have friends who don't even do sticking/gluing because they can't stand the mess (each to their own before anyone starts!).

I also find playing painfully dull. Hence I struggle to interact with my 2yr old dd but I'm lucky that my almost 6 yr old ds thrives on homework and academic stuff. I therefore spend time with him doing spellings, trivia questions, writing made-up stories, doing sums, etc. I do make the time for arts and crafts for the 2 of them, but that's about it. I really cannot do the 'play' thing, specially pretend play and role play, I simply don't have the energy.

I am atrocious at 'playing'. Really dreadful.

But I talk to them all the time, read to them and generally enlist them in everything I'm doing: cooking, shopping, washing, running errands, meal-planning, gardening, pet-care.

I'm not bad at craft type things, and OK at card games, but Barbie and Lego aren't my bag.

IME, they want to be with you. They like being included in what you're doing, talked to and given the opportunity to try different things.
