I know lots of work is being done to improve schools here- which are the best primary schools>?

Millfields and Rushmore are meant to be really good, in Lower Clapton. Betty Layward a hot ticket for meeja mummies. William Patten rated by more eco parents. Tons of others. Grasmere always popular.

I'm sure others have more info.

But then, I took ds out of school here because they utterly failed to address his SN. And I worked in the school as an LSA.

I am also looking for a decent primary school in hackney - or London Fields to be more specific. Our local school, London Fields primary, has just been through special measures so I'm hoping we will see rapid improvements. Gayhurst also has a good reputation - and Laureston in Victoria Park, is meant to be excellent

Where abouts are you deaddei? Hackney's a big borough. There are loads of good schools and still sadly some bad ones.
Madame, I heard of another parent who has just taken their child from Grasmere too. not sure of the reason though.

Lorry, Gayhurst is good apparently, so is Queensbridge. I know people with children at both and they all seem very happy. Sad about London Fields. If it's been in Special Measures though it probably will improve massively.

That's sad about Gayhurst BarryK, but then again they all have their moments I suppose. Good to hear London Fields is on the up.

My children go to William Patten and are all very happy. I'd say it is a great school, with a very caring ethos and some great teachers. Last OFSTED (if you set stock by such things) it was just a couple of points off 'outstanding'. It is a diverse community school; at 'International Evening' last week, where the kids get together and perform music and dance for each other, and the parents bring food to eat, I learned that there are about 30 different languages spoken in the school. My kids are thriving here, emotionally and academically. So, if you're thinking of moving to this neck of Hackney, I don't think you could do better than William Patten.

Oh - this is a good thread for me too. I live between Victoria Park Village and London Fields.

From what I understand, Lauriston has expanded and is either going to be increasing their intake or expanding their catchment area - something like that. We may just scrape into their catchment, BUT, considering the apparent South Hackney baby boom, I am not counting on it. I really hope that London Fields has improved in 2 years, when DD will start. I keep thinking that if all the Broadway Market parents I see in the area send their offspring there en masse, it will be an organic milk & Francophone zone before we can say boo.

I also looked into one called Orchard Primary. Has anyone heard anything about it? I read in the local paper that it is being refurbished and it had a decent Ofsted report. I also heard that the CofE one is good, St. John of Jerusalem, but I am definitely a non-faith school mum!

Lauriston has just become 2 form entry (from 1 form). Not sure how they are managing it (ie. whether they are adding an extra year group each year from Reception up, or opening 7 new classes simultaneously).

I have family who attend and are very, very happy with it.

St John of Jerusalem had the best sats in Hackney this year, it is a really lovely school, parents from a variety of backgrounds and races. You only need to attend church for about 6 months, the vicar is friendy and non -judgemental. Lots of parents help out in the classroom, in the garden (they are creating an enormous orchard infront of the school), on trips and to organise events. We love it.
