Hi. There is a governors' meeting at school soon and parents are invited to attend. Was just wondering what sorts of questions you would ask your school governors. I have some questions regarding the curriculum and organisation of school but wondering what other questions to ask. I want to make the most of this opportunity! TIA

Is the meeting to discuss the School Annual Report? If so, read the report and have you any questions on the report.
How old are your children?

Is the school fully staffed?

  • If not - what steps are being taken to recruit?

Is the school likely to be fully staffed for the Sept. intake?
  • if not - what steps ...

Are there likely to be any changes in the Senior Teaching Team soon?
  • If so - what steps are being taken to recruit experienced teachers?

Is there an Overspend in the School Budget?
  • If so - what steps are being taken ...

Does County have any concerns about the school?
  • i.e. with the Budget or Targets

What level of support does County think the school needs?
  • i.e. Light, Medium or Heavy/a lot

Has the school met recent Targets in English, Maths and Science?
  • If not, what steps have been taken ...

Have all the Sept. intake places been taken?
  • If not, why not? What steps are being taken? This could give budgets problems to the school for the next and subsequent years.

Are there any problems approaching on the horizon, what is being done? How can we help?

Are the Teachers happy that there sufficient Admin personnel to help them?
  • Teacher should teach and not do 'too much' admin.

Have all the Governors been CRB checked?
  • If not, they go straight to the naughty step.

Is there/should there be a balance between male and female Governors
  • Does it really matter?

What steps have been taken to address the concerns in the last OFSTED report?
  • Get it from the OFSTED web site and read it.

If OFSTED spring an inspection next week would the school be ready?

Remember the Governors deal with Budgets, Policies, Targets and things which are 'a step away' from the 'day to day' running of the school.
Any question like 'My child doesn't ... isn't ... can't ...' is not for a Governors meeting.

Finally, make a big effort to be supportive (It's all too easy to criticise and whine).
What can we do as parents to support the school?
What does the school need next (Computers, equipment), how can we help?
I see that you have address the concerns in the last OFSTED report about 'blar blar blar', thanks for that, is the new procedure working ok?
My child said 'insert somthing nice' he is very happy here - thanks for all that you do

Are there any Governor vacancies!

Thank you v much, Dan - that's a great list of ideas and suggestions. I think my questions were more about the day to day running of the school.... THANKS again!!
