Have a look at
www.familylearning.org.uk/multiplication_games.html

You should find one there you like! My children particularly like Hit the Button!

Thanks that looks good, will try it out with kids tomorrow. Are there any dedicated to times tables. I don't mind buying one.

Please remember to help your child learn their division facts at the SAME time as their multiplication ones. I teach Y3/4 chd and this has had a HUGE impact on the mental maths ability of my class this year. Lots of stuff in Y4,5,6 really rely on the chd already knowing these and it holds them back if they don't. The national curriculum says they are expected to know up to 10 x 10 by the end of year 3.

My 8 yo DD has just passed her 12s. I found that bribery worked quite well in the process, and she has really brushed up on her coin-counting too. She loved finding patterns in the tables.

Just wanted to add that using what the kids call teh triangle also helps A LOT. Saw it somewhere on the www but has been brilliant.

24
/ /

6 x 4

Sorry the / should really be a division sign!
You "read it" like this. 6 x 4 =24. So if I need to know what 24 / 6 equals I can ask myself what did I have to multiply 6 by to get 24?? Drawing the triangle and leaving teh space for the 4 blank helps then form the correct question and they then use their knowledge of x to help their divison. Reinforces their understanding of inverses AND works with + and - as well!

Hope that made sense? Normally do lots of scribbles to explain!

Best of luck.

Damn..... that diagram didn't come out well once the message posted! Imaging the 24 at the apex and one of the / signs down each side of the triangle...

DD3 just did factorisation using a diagram like this; I can see it would be a great visual aid to facilitate understanding of the reciprocal (if that's the word) aspect of multiplication and division. Many thanks Over40 -- DD4 can 'get' facts if she works at them, but concepts are hard for her and finding visual ways of explaining concepts works far better than verbal approaches.
