Teaching chess

Can anyone recommend either a good book or computer software to teach children chess. Children in question are 4 and 6. thanks

my ds started chess this year at school in year 1 and they teach it very differently to how I imagined - they learn the squares first - ie d4 or whatever and what the pieces do for weeks before playing - very counter intuitive but it must have good results as his school are amazing at it...

We have a Mac and there is a chess programme on that. Set to its simplest level, ds (6) really enjoys it. Picked up the moves really quickly.

We had a good game for the PC, although I can't quite remember what it was called ... Chester something... Fritz & Chester??

My boys loved it.

'Chess for Children' by Murray Chandler and Helen Milligan. We got it from Amazon. It takes them step by step through what each piece does, with short quizzes that are fun along the way. DS has become chess obsessed and it helped loads as I'd taught him a couple of the moves wrong. . He likes the Mac programme too.
