Primary education

Don't you think that if you have applied for a primary place via e-form, they should let you know via e-mail??

Applied for DS via the e-application.

Places are out tomorrow but council are notifying all parents via letter, sent 2nd class post so with the weekend/current state of the post office, that will be middle of next week easily

Given that the council made it very clear that their preference was for parents to submit the form online, that for those who did do that, they should be notified of school paces via e-mail

I have complained to the council saying that they put a great deal of emphasis on reducing carbon footprint, managing their budget etc and that e-mail notification seems the way forward. I haven't had a response yet and was wondering what other mnetters think?

I applied for DD1 school place last year via online application and found out in March via email what school she had (they did sttae emails would be after 4.30 and mine came through around 4.50pm ) if you didnt apply online letters went out the smae day the emails went so those people didnt find out for 1-2 days after.

Oh and worked out teh reason the email went so late in teh day is the department that deals with applications/spaces etc closes at 4.30pm

I applied for a place online, and received an email result, but also sent a letter. They made it clear that the email was not a substitute for the letter.

Are you sure you dont get an email AS WELL as a letter? We did last year when we applied for DS.

Obviously your wishes for an email notification tomorrow is about carbon footprints and not impatience to know which school your child will be going to

MyLife - oooh yes, purely for environmental reasons....

There is no e-mail notification - letter only.

Its just that would be good to have the weekend to talk it over with DH

With DS we applied online and were meant to get an email about it, but we only got a letter. The website said it was due to technical difficulties .

Am hoping it will be better this year with DD (although we don't find out until the end of April. Or possibly the beginning of May).

Puss - are you in Bristol? We had this last year. DD has started reception this year, but I remember the anxious wait. They don't send an email as well. Also last year they only sent out some of the letters on the right date, others had to wait even longer. I think it was some of the people who hadn't got their first choice who had to wait longer, making it even worse for them. Good luck.

Yes, am in Bristol.

I've complained to the council so will see what response I get...seems madness that we have to wait for snail mail!

I applied online and received a letter to say I hadn't applied and DD wouldn't be guarenteed a place. Luckily I had saved the confimation and three polite phonecalls later, I was informed they had spoken to the school and it was sorted. Not sure what it had to do with the school though. Anyway, confimation of school place was by letter, perhaps they had realised that online wasn't very reliable.

Good luck PussinJimmyChoos. Are you in one of the really oversubscribed pockets, or should you be ok for your first choice? Agree they should have responded by email - maybe you'll manage to get it changed for future years...

I applied online and was meant to have an email reply. I called on the morning the info was being released to check what email address I had given them - luckily for me they said their system was down and told me over the phone instead! Then my friend did the same and they told her to sod off and wait for a letter. I think I must have timed it just right . Got a letter as well.

where i live if you apply online you get your notification of school place online supposedly on 1st march. this was used as a "selling point" to encourage online applications (imo) as it stated that if you posted your form in a letter will be posted 2nd class on 1st march.
however i much preferred to post my ds app in and a letter in reply even if it means we have to wait a little longer . just like to have that letter in my hand iykwim !
