Not from Spain, but moved back to UK with two DCs (4 and 8 at the time). Do you know where you are moving to? Do you have an address? If you have an address (even family, if you can live with them for a while) it makes it much easier - schools won't confirm a place for you until you have an address in their area. How long have you got to plan?

I had to move back at short notice, mid-year, and was desperately trying to find a school with a place for DS (8) and somewhere to live nearby in time to have an address for applying for DD's (4) reception place the following September before the deadline. My mum and I spent a lot of time on the phone to different schools and the LEA, who were sympathetic. You can usually find school information, Ofsted reports etc on the council website, but to find out about available school places we had to call all the schools individually.

We moved back fro Spain afert 3 years there in August. DC's were 12 and 8. We contacted the LEA directly and were lucky enough to get places for both DC's in the schools of our choice.

Not from Spain, but we moved back to UK with DC aged 11, 8 and 6. We had to appeal to get DS1 and 2 into nearest schools.

All of the children have settled into school surprisingly well, especially considering that youngest 2 had never been to school in UK previously.
