my DD2 is bored stiff with the schools reading books and has received lots of lovely books from santa eg. roald dahl, magic tree house, enid blyton, Harry potter, daisy books; will get the school books read before 4/1/10 but looking forward to snuggling down and reading exciting stuff; what is your DC enjoying reading?

We often don't read dd's school books as like you we have far more exciting books to read. I just write what she read whether it's the school book she chose or not.

Well yesterday my DS begged and pleaded with his Aunt to let him read her copy of Vogue Needless to say she didn't let him despite his wailings of "but it's for boys too, there are pictures of men in it!"

oh the joys of having a child with an adult reading age...

juliemacc if your child is able to read harry potter on their own then why are they being given boring reading scheme books from school?(maybe I've got that wrong and you are reading to them?)

Our free readers just pick what they want from the library and we check it is challenging them.

Lots of kids can read Harry Potter on their own but are forced to read books from the reading scheme, which according to their teachers just have to be read - it's a processing endurance test! We care not.

My ds is enjoying The adventures of Jeremy James, Roald Dahl, Captain Underpants, Astrosaurs, Beast Quest & Harry the Poisonous Centipede, Jeremy Strong and the occassional Flower Fairy book from his sister - we are reading him Harry Potter because we want to share the magic!
