Good Cardiff/Vale primary schools?

We have recently moved back to Cardiff after living in Solihull for 5 years, have a DS who's coming up to 2 and thinking about what primary schools would be good. We haven't bought anywhere yet as we are waiting for house in Solihull to sell so are living with MIL in north Cardiff. Where are the decent schools? Also, husband has a new job in Bristol, and that would mean moving again,or are the schools be better there?

We have friends who are very happy with Llysfaen Primary and Rhydypenau (that might be more central though). Most people we know have gone down the Welsh medium route TBH, think Bristol school situation is quite stressful.

My in laws are in Llysfaen and dh went there (we also lived in Solihull oddly enough ) I believe Llysfaen is still very good. Don't know much about Bristol - BIL teaches there but at secondary level

Not sure how Bristol schools compare to Cardiff schools, but my daughter started in reception this year at a well regarded school in North West Bristol. It is a complete bunfight to get places and you need to live really near to one of the good schools to have a chance of a place. Depends whereabouts in Bristol your DH will be working as the commute could take as long as from Cardiff! I used to live near the Mall at Cribbs Causeway and work right in the city centre and used to have to allow an hour to get to work for 9am.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I think the only one I would consider is Llysfaen primary. DH went to Coed Glas many years ago and although they have lovely grounds etc, I wasn't keen on estyn inspection and both of these schools feed in Llanishen high, which looks like it's gone downhill from the impression that I get from the kids in the village. Any new experiences of Llanishen high? Or am I thinking too far ahead?
My husband will be working in the airport,so as for commute, it's either somewhere like lisvane or move close to Bristol airport.

Backwell is not far from Bristol airport and is well regarded for both primary and secondary schools.
