Like the other 80+% of the population. I expect some parents read this and felt quite hurt because they may have received worse news. Think before you write things like that.

Happily.

There's less stress with 'average' and I suspect he'll be happier for it.

When people who've excelled at something talk about what motivated them they often say it was the fact that their mothers let them know that they believed they were totally exceptional and could do what they wanted in life. I really wouldn't let a teacher's judgment that your son is average deflect you from your knowledge that he's actually a genius.

I thought this would be about swine flu.

Theres nowt wrong with average. The main thing is if your dc is happy at school

(FWIW I would love my dd to be even remotely "average" as she has quite severe developmental delay)

LOL.

I think some of you are being a little harsh on the OP, she is taking the piss, no?

My mum was told by my primary teacher that I was a bit thick ('would be lucky to get a couple of GCSE's' was the exact phrase) I'm quite clever really. Don't believe a word of it he is obviously destined for great things..

I think she is admitting to what most mumsnetters won't admit to -their DC is average! If they all had sky high IQs that would be the new average!

Lighten up guys ...jeez ...

OP was clearly joking

Report
trickerg · 02/07/2009 23:06

Can see that plonker, but thought the 'joke' was insensitive for this kind of forum where a lot of people are worried about special needs and would love to be told that their child is 'average'.

OP - the teacher is obviously an idiot who cannot recognise your DS's genious!

It was quite clear to me that she wasn't mocking those whose DCs struggle-just a few who can easily stand it!

I'm a teacher with an sn child and over 20 years of dealing with parents.
I thought it was funny, but then I can put numerous faces to the horrified response.

oh dear can no one make a joke or mess arround on here now.
dd has severe sn, but i lol at the op.
dodn't forget a lot of parents of dc's with sn have more than one child.
my dc's are average, averagely annoying.....
