Right, please bear with me. I grew up in the olden days when we had O levels, 'infants' 'juniors' etc

DS is 3 and is currently at (paid for) playschool.
Is September he'll be going...where?
Is it nursery, pre-school, reception, what?

I get confused when I read MN!

He will be going to Nursery in September.

September 2010 he will join the Reception class!

So he turns 4 in November?

He will start school Reception in September 2010 or January 2011, depending on how many intakes your LEA has.

This September, 2009, he can continue to go to playschool or could go to a state run nursery - he would be eligible for free sessions.

Ah thank you. It all makes sense now.
Think he'll be going to the state run one as it's next door to the house (give or take a ginnel)

Towards the end of the year you should submit an application for primary school - to find out the following spring and for him to start in reception in September 2010.

Don't forget you need to apply for places beforehand.

We don't have state run nurseries/pre-schools here. So ds (who will start reception in sept 2010) will carry on going to the paid for pre-school he is already at (using the paid for by the gov sessions plus top ups because the pre-school is more expensive).

Ring your nearest pre-school asap. Mos of them get booked up months or even years in advance.
