Going back to teaching after 6 years... how?

I taught in a primary school for 3 years then moved overseas where I taught (technically as a TA) for 2 years and have been home with DS ever since. I would like to go back to teaching in the UK.

Do I need to retrain or do a refresher course? If so, how? Who runs these courses? Would my LEA? Has anyone else done this?

I think you may need to do a Return to Teaching course after 6 years.

If you want to do supply, then the agencies will want you to do the Return to Teaching coures before they will send you out to schools (IME).
If you are applying directly to schools, then it is up to you and the school - but they are a good way to get updated on all the many initiatives - and to get the opportunity to have some practice back in the classroom in a phased way. The school placement is very much tailored to your needs.

I would go on supply get yourself know and get back into the hussle and bussle of the classroom.

Many supply agenies won't take you on unless you have had recent (last 3-4 years) experience or done a return to teaching course. There is a woman at the school I work at doing this course at the moment as she has had about 6 or 7 years away from the classroom.
