Does anyone have school recommendations in Wimbledon Park?

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any school recommendations in Wimbledon Park? My DD is due to start school Sept 2009 and we are looking at moving to Wimbledon Park (from Battersea) in May. Now I'm not sure what to do... have been looking at Putney High Junior and Wimbledon High Junior, but both are selective and I expect we are too late. The local schools are Ablemarle and Sheringdon and look good on the tables, but again, expect that we would be too late for these. Any advice is appreciated.

We're in Wimbledon Park. It's a difficult area for schools in that there is a really high density of primary age children and not enough schools. Wimbledon Park Primary School is lovely (my son went to nursery there and everyone says nice things about the main school), but unless you're very near you probably won't get in. I know some local people have ended up sending their children to Garfield (which is South Wimbledon) or schools in East Putney, because they couldn't get them in more locally. I don't know about Albermarle or Sheringdale. Sorry not desperately helpful.

All very stressful. Sounds like independant schools maybe a better option. Putney High Junior looks good, maybe they have a waiting list. Thanks for your feedback.

I would be very surprised if you could get into either Putney or Wimbledon High at this stage for September 2009. I know a few people who have got places at both and the offers came out a couple of weeks ago. There are loads of people on the waiting list for both so I don't think you will have much luck. It would also be the same with The Study (girls school on Wimbledon Common. You can but try.

There is also a huge shortage of state primary places in Merton. Various schools have had to add on extra classes for next year because of a massive over demand. So as lilyfire says you could end up with a school the other end of the borough. But people do move quite a lot so there is scope to get into 'good' schools in Yr 1.

Thanks for replies... spoke to schools and yes it's impossible to get DD a place. Also spoke to council, and they confirmed that it would be very unlikely to get any school close by. Looks like we have to stay put... at least we have a school here.
