i just dont know what to do with her anymore. the headteacher asked her to do a book review. one of the questions is
'if you liked this book- how would you recommend it to a friend?' dd1 has written 'i would tell them the exciting and interesting part and why i liked it'

which is all well and good, but it isnt what it asks for. i asked her what bit she liked and she ummed and erred through it. i asked her why she didnt explain more about the book. again she ummed and errred through it.

i really dont know what to do. she isnt daft. she knows what she needs to write and how much, she just doesnt like writing. i am just feeling so disheartened with it all, and trying not to show it.

she is in year 4.

Would she work better with a template - so break down the task for her, so she has to answer more specific questions, rather than it being a bit vague?

i dont know hula. i really dont know.

i feel bad for moaning, as seems like i'm not happy with either dd's and their work. but am utterly torn in two between the two.

its just a sheet of a4 she has to fill in. but i can see her doing laods of book reviews and them all being the same apart from the title.

For example:

I enjoyed/ disliked reading this book

Author: Title: The plot:

Write at least 3-4 sentences about the plot

  • What was the story about?
  • Who were the main characters?
  • Did the main characters run into any problems or have any adventures?
  • Who was your favourite character and why?

(Remember not to tell the ending of the story.)

Your recommendation* Would you recommend this book to another person?
  • What type of person would like this book?

Ah right.

Maybe just leave it as it is this time round. Let her teacher give her feedback and see what happens next time she gets one to do. Maybe the teacher response might spur her on next time.

it was set by the headteacher.

this is generally what dd1 standard of work is like.

i know she struggles.

but ui cant see how to make it better for her.
