DD1 started school last week & seems to love it,thank goodness. It is a village school,so not huge, but there are only 9 of them in reception.I wondered how many children are in the average reception class?

  1. Only 9 in at the moment, spring-born start tomorrow and the rest on Monday. It sounds a lot but in fact the classrooms are big with smaller 'studies' off them and there are 2 teaching assistants.

34, but with 2 full time teachers and 2 TAs - it's a reception base rather than a class as such.

last year, DD's class was similar to ggirl's DS's.
30 and 20 boys.

This year the intake is down - so in order not to lose a teacher, the school has had to split classes. So DD is in a yr1/yr2 mixed class and half her friends from reception are in another class.

I think there is 30 bang on and a virtual 50/50 split with girls and boys
