school trip with Victorian theme...

ok - can you help me think of ideas for ds - he has to wear Victorian clothes for his yr 6 trip - need something I don't have to sew !! TIA

I used to live in a town which celebrated vistorian week; had to dress DD in a victorian costume for a week in June for 7 bloody years!

Thank god she was a tomboy, she used to get sent dressed as a chimney sweep every year. Old school trousers cut off and made to look raggy, same as with an old cotton shirt. Waistcoat and flat cap from a charity shop. Kerchief round the neck. All covered in black "soot" to make it look chimney sweepy, plus made her face look grubby.

She loved it!

Anything else was just too much like hard work.

Everyone always goes for the urchin/chimney sweep/flower girl look!

When I had to do this for DS1 I had nothing I could use for any of these, so he wore his school trousers, a black 3/4 length jacket of mine, which was like a frock coat, a waistcoat (he'd just been to a wedding so had one of these) and a cravat from my 80s wardrobe when these were briefly fashionable.

Voila! A Victorian toff!

If possible - why not bring a Victorian style packed lunch?

Try to avoid plastic wrappers [paper is fine].

Suggestions:

Block of cheese or cold meat
Chunk of bread
Pickled onions
Apples
Chicken leg, etc.
Wrap your lunch in a tea cloth or a large handkerchief - or borrow a wicker basket.

oh thanks all - you're stars ! I've done an evacuee lunch for him when they were doing WW2 - I even baked an eggless sponge cake ! He could have some gruel !!
