Twisted ankle and PE

My dd twisted her ankle yesterday. It's swollen and a bit bruised.

I'm sure PE won't kick in straight away at school (back tues).

It's not too dramatic to send a note in to keep her off PE for two weeks is it???

As long as she isn't going to be running around the playground during playtime making you look overprotective then it should be fine!

Last term DD turned her ankle in PE and it was painful enough and swollen enough to go to minor injuries.
They advised no PE till she was pain free or the ligaments could be permanently damaged.

Why two weeks? Why not just say until it's better / not causing pain?

I'd send a note as they may do running and jumping games even if it's not an official PE lesson.

"keep her off PE" is a bit drastic - some PE is not about running around, but standing there trying to get a netball in a basket, beanbag target practise etc.
Our school also involves kids who are incapacitated in scoring/refereeing/handing out equipment etc - there is no "off PE" here.

I would also just send a note saying she has twisted her ankle and may be unable to participate depending on the activity.

Depends how bad it is I suppose. What did the doctor say?

If not too bad, just send a note saying she's hurt it and ask if she can sit out if they do anything that makes it feel worse.

If you are really worried and don't want her doing any PE for two weeks then you should send a letter from the doctor and also be prepared that her teacher may ask her to stay in and read at playtime too to avoid aggravating the injury.

If she's not fit for PE, she'll also need a quiet playtime.

I don't think you can predict the healing rate from injury for a 7yo.

I'd send a note on the first day, asking for restricted activities for the rest of this week, and review then.

Ds twisted his ankle badly and school just let him self-limit his activities. He still got changed for pe, but was allowed to sit out if in pain. At playtime, he was allowed to take a book out. He recovered well.
