Is everybody winding down as regards buying uniform for this year's year 6 kids?

My DS is just squeezing into his PE track suit but I don't see the point as regards buying new, ditto everything else.Have only bought 3 new pairs of trousers, two polo tops and one pair of PE shorts to last until the end of the year.

All his school sweatshirts look shite but can't justify buying anymore.

Please say everybody else does the same.

Yep. I'm on my third (and last!) going into Yr6 and she will definitely only be getting the absolute essentials as the only thing that will go across into Secondary school will be her shirts.

Oh, and you've bought more than I have - the only thing we've got on the list atm is shoes. She's got a pair of trousers and a dress, that'll do Smile

Her jumper is more holes than jumper imo but she wears that by choice - she won't wear the new one... it seems to be a bit of a craze.

I don't think DD2 got any new uniform in Y6, except possibly a pair of long enough trousers, tights and shoes.

She has a pair of trousers and two new blouses for Y9, she had a new skirt at Easter as she'd shot up. School is threatening to change the uniform. She can, as she did in Y6 wear her DSIS slightly too big jumpers if she needs more. (DD1's sixform ones are different).

Yes, the cool thing in y6 is to rock the look that says, "I'm so over primary school that I wouldn't lower myself to wear uniform that actually fits. "

Never crossed my mind not to buy new uniform for year 6. I wouldn't want to go to work in scruffy or I'll fitting clothes so wouldn't do the same to a child. Last half term maybe not replace anything but before then I would.

I didn't buy anything for my daughter last year apart from a couple of white shirts she can use for secondary school this year.

that sounds like you are buying loads! I'm not doing anything different from any other year, for my Y6 child really - umming about buying him a new football top (which is starting to look small, though in fairness he's had it since Y3 and I can pass it down to his sister!). His polo shirts still fit as does the rest of PE kit, he won't wear a jumper. The only thing I will buy is trousers when he grows out of his current ones - though will buy a style that is acceptable at secondary school.

I've got twins going into year 6. They had all new uniform last year, apart from jumpers. I may just buy plain supermarket ones rather than logo tops. Though I have got a younger one to hand down.

They need shoes, suppose I should buy them some before they go back.

New shoes, socks and trainers. Everything else still fits at the moment. She may need some new trousers come autumn.

My child going into year 6 has grown and needs stuff that fits so I am buying a tracksuit, 2 jumpers, a blazer, 2 trousers, 5 shirts and a coat. He has 10 months to wear it so needs it.

My DD2 has just come out of Yr6 - her school was very relaxed about uniform so we could buy it anywhere.

I bought her:

  • The Yr6 cardigan - only Yr6 are allowed to wear the black ones, she desperately wanted it and wore it every day so £9 well spent. It's immaculate after a year, I'm going to offer it to a friend of mine who still had DCs in the school.
  • The house PE T-shirt - because it was cheap and because she was competing for the school.

Everything else was bought because she outgrew it (yes, I'm looking at you, Miss Three Different Sizes of School Trousers!)

Dd3 is my fourth and last to leave primaryschool. I have bought her nothing at all. Not even new shoes as sh gotnew in July when old ones got a hole in them.

Cardigan s are s bit freyed snd look washed but they are clesn and fit so I see no needto buy new ones.

only 338 days to go...:-)

I'm exactly the same. Tried it all on today, and decided it's just about ok where in other years I would have thought might as well buy new as won't last the year. This year it will! He's had some new polo shirts (plain Tesco ones) but that's it!
