Year 6 confession time!

I'm feeling very guilty and feel the need to confess to lots of faceless people in cyberspace. Can't admit it to any people I actually know!

I have just sent DD Y6 off to her last day at primary school and leavers assembly, but she was very sick twice in the night!

Obviously, under normal circumstances there is no way I would have sent her to school. But it's the last day, and she can't miss her leavers service, can she? I don't think it's a bug, she's fine this morning, I think she is just very emotional, and although this doesn't normally make her sick it does upset her stomach.

Still, I know it's wrong, but as far as I know there are no particular health issues with her year group (but then I wouldnt know would I!) Sorry, tirade of ranty guilt. As you were ............

Not wanting to guilt trip you but this is my experience.

A couple of years in our school a boy had been sent in in similar circumstances. He was violently ill during leavers' assembly being sick on his friends and the head teacher and I.
It ruined the assembly that we had spent a long time putting together.

When his younger brother announced "he threw up before school as well" we were less than amused.

Dd2 used to be sick with nerves/excitement before every school trip/assembly/special day. The Dr said that as long as she had no other signs of being ill, or was sick more than once then to assume she was fine, he even wrote to the school to tell them. Once she was at school she was usually fine, and was never sick at school for this. Some children are like that apparently.

She now gets sick with migraines, and the school is quite happy for me to send her back in once the migraine has gone, which occasionally has been the same day.

Oh dear! It was quite a few hours ago that she was sick, if it had been in the few hours before school she wouldn't have gone. Not sure this soothes my guilt, though!

Oh well, keeping everything crossed that it goes ok. She's under strict instructions to go straight to the teacher and ask to come home if she feels at all ill. Nope, still not feeling less guilty!

As a parent, I can see where you're coming from. As a teacher who has had to deal with unwell children on the very last day of term, had leavers' assemblies ruined because of sickness and had staff whose start to the holidays have been ruined due to catching a bug from poorly children 'just sent in for the last day', I think your guilt is well deserved
Hopefully your daughter has a lovely day though and it really was just nerves!

Well DD survived leavers service with no embarrassment and is determined to stay for picnic but on strict instructions to stick to safe food (bit tricky at a party!) Oh well, at least it's the last day!

She probably would have been sick again by now if she was going to. Glad the leavers service went ok, it's my dds tomorrow. Sniff.
