Uniform query

So I should know this as DS has done 2 years at school already, but baby brain has totally taken over.

Is the start of the 6 weeks holiday too soon to buy uniform? (will buy shoes and plimsoles end of August).

Add to the fact that I'm already 33 weeks pregnant at the start if the holidays so logistically getting out and about may get harder as the holidays go on.

Thanks x

Is this a change of school requiring new uniform, or has he simply shot up and been struggling with outgrown uniform for the last weeks of term?

If the former (or if uniform is simply worn out), then I'd buy now so you don't have to think about it again. If it's growth spurt, I'd wait until nearer the time (but, if you're forgetful, make sure you write a really clear reminder somewhere).

I'd get it now as it tends to sell out as time goes on.

He's outgrown it, but only just too small so I reckon getting the next size up will be fine. It's frustrating, I don't dare send my husband as he will probably not try any on him, but just buy age 6, when he's already outgrown age 6-7 as he's so tall :-)

Order it on line! Stuff taking a 6yr old shopping and trying things on when you are 33 weeks preg and it's hot!

Just got all mine from M&S online. I'll try it on DS at home then I can send it back if necessary (within 35 days, which takes us to 25th August, I think). I couldn't face a hot shop and a 4.5yr old, and I'm not pregnant!

I am also for M&S online.
Clothes - I just went to what they are currently wearing from M&S and typed in the numbers off the labels and up it came. My son need to go one size up from last time but my daughter can fit OK in things 2 sizes up. I think most people next next terms uniform in July.

I do leave shoes to the very last week - because I have experience of feet growing fast within 6 weeks! I buy from Clarks and they never sell out and they can order in different sizes within a few days.
However, M&S sell almost identical shoes a lot cheaper (more than 10--20%).

I buy from next online. I've never bought school stuff from a brick shop. Life is too short. Mine are both fully kitted out for the new term.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant so, like you, want this sorted ASAP! I've ordered online from M&S tried it all on & its great. I will also do shoes & plimsoles end of Aug.
Its too hot to go into town & faff about with a bored child who doesn't want to try clothes on. Much easier at home!
Hope that helps x

I think I'll be doing it online then. Thanks for the advices does. I'm not normally this stupid, I just seem to have lost my brain along with my waist line! Only thing I'll need to venture to town for are his jumpers as they need to be logo ones and only one shop stocks them. Can combine it with a midwife appointment though ;-)

Definitely either order online or do a "click and collect" at your local supermarket/dept store for all the items that you can.

In terms of shoes, my DD's feet have stayed the same width for the past 5 years so I tend to buy school shoes several sizes ahead when there is a sale on and just get her feet measured every few months (Startrite have had an online tool for this, but I find it easier to just pop into a shop).

When DD started in reception her clothes absolutely swamped her so I did end up getting a couple of smaller sizes and putting a few tucks/hems in others. Our local uniform suppliers are worse than the January sales come mid-August.

Have you tried Tesco's double up with their club card scheme? I used £15 of vouchers to get approx £30 of uniform (4 x dresses, 2 x gym shorts and 2 x white polo tops for gym). Also if you check with any shops you use, some of them offer extended returns policies for school uniform. Clarks normally offer extended returned policy for shoes (my son has very wide feet). HTH
