Hello,
I am currently residing in Australia and myself and my two children are moving to Horsham in February next year. My son will be 7 and my daughter will be 5. I am looking for a recommended mainstream primary school that has good support for children on the spectrum. My son has PDD NOS, and has a couple hours a day in class room one on one so he achieves his tasks/work in class. He is in mainstream school here, does quite well academically, just a bit disruptive at times and is easily distracted. Is there a primary school in Horsham (or a few) that anyone recommends that has also go good facilities and support for kids on the ASD. My daughter will be starting school next year (not on spectrum) so I am trying to have her go to the same school. We will be coming out September this year to look at schools, so anyone's feedback would be great. Also, my concern is the waitlists as well with some schools I have been looking at......Many thanks, A

Arghhh! Sorry. It will be in year admissions and they won't be able to allocate places until you have an address, so contact them before visiting any schools in September. Hope that helps

As inthename said it will be in year admissions. Our school year starts in September. When does your son turn 8 as that will affect which school year he goes into. If he is 8 before 31st August 2015 then he will be in year 3, or if after that he will be in year 2. Also remember in the UK children start school in Year R (Reception) the September after they turn 4, so dependent on your daughters birthday is she might be in Reception or Year 1.

Most of the primary schools in Horsham are very full, especially in years R to 2 as they are unable by law to have no more than 30 children per class. However in year 3 there can sometimes be a little bit more movement available.

With Horsham it does depend very much where you will be living and you certainly won't get a space allocated until you have the address you will be residing at.

Because of the pressure on school places in the town at the moment some people are being offered spaces in village schools surrounding the town, e.g. Warnham & St Andrews Nuthurst.

Your best bet is when you visit in September is to arrange to visit the local schools who might have spaces available or that you would like to go on the waiting lists for and discuss your sons needs.

The schools I would be looking at are: Kingslea Primary School, North Heath Primary School, Holbrook Primary School, All Saints Primary School and Arunside Primary School. Trafalgar Infant school is a possibility which then feeds into Greenway Academy in Year 3, (although mixed reports about Greenway at the moment), also Littlehaven Infants which feeds into North Holmes Junior School and lastly Leechpool Primary School.

If you want to pm me to find out more about their locations etc please do so & I will try to help. (I'm a childminder in the town whose 2 dd's are now almost 17 & 20)

Hi Badgerhead,

I just recently put a post on the babysitting topic for Horsham. As you know we are out there in September for nearly a few weeks and will be requiring some babysitting in the evening occasionally. Do you recommended someone or an agency I could contact when over there and do you know how much the hourly rate is.?I have two children, 4 & 6 and as we have no family in UK (his family reside in Spain) then it is a little difficult. Thanks for your help again. Ange

Hi Ange, I'm moving to Horsham in September. I'm Australian too with an English husband. My daughter is 4. Let me know if you want to catch up when you arrive. Sorry I'm no help on schools. I'm working that stuff out for myself too. Good luck with the move and let me know if you need any advice on moving!
