Change of address during application time period

Hello all,

Hope someone can help me.

My son's primary school application starts November 15 ,we are moving to a new house on end of November .

Currently our Council/County has my current address , so they will send me the information pack to this address.

What should I do when I move to this new address?Can my son qualify to nearby schools from the new address?

Check your LEA website - just type in XXXX (city/ county) LEA on a search engine and you'll get a link. Usually there is something about moving/ change of address.

if no joy

Ring your LEA. They're usually incredibly helpful. Explain where you are in the house moving situation (owner/ renter/ etc...) - they'll give you advice on what to do from there.

We moved after our application had gone in into a better catchment area. When I rang the council to advise they said to send proof (council tax I expect) once moved in and they would update details. As it was we went on waiting list for a school we wanted and got in before term started so didn't need to do it

Closing date is normally in January so can you not just apply after you move? You can probably apply online. Check the Hertfordshire County council website under Education for timescales.

I agree with LIZS the applications won't close until mid January. Move house end Nov and then apply for DS's school place soon after that. It will be better anyway as presumably you want a place close to your new home.

Here , you have until 15th January to apply

You have till the 15th Jan to apply. If you are moving house end Nov, it gives plenty of time to move, look at the local schools and decide what your preferences are. I would be careful to ensure that you do get clear confirmation either off the website or by letter that your application has been received if the LA have our old address on file. It should pick up the new address from the application but you do need to make sure that this has happened.

My plan was to wait till I move and then apply , I wasn't sure about moving during the application period and how much time we had to be there to get qualified under that address. Now I have a clear idea and I'm much relieved.
