I have heard that this year is more competitive than previous years for 4+ as there are a record number of siblings. Does anyone know any more about this? I know I need it is beyond my control but I am so worried that my little one wont be offered a place because of this!
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Also when should i expect results?
Thank you!

About 32 siblings this year. Not sure how this compares to previous years though. Good luck!

Sorry forgot to say you should hear by Wednesday I think.

Yes a few more siblings applying this year but it's not a given that they will all secure a place. Don't lose hope - Aldo are you trying other schools?

Thank you both. Apparently siblings will secure a place unless they are really below the bar. I asked about it and they said as its a family school they almost always accept siblings (they also have an issue with traffic from the local council so prefer this)
Mumteacher: Yes we are sitting Habs, NLCS and St Helens but sounds like they are even more competitive..

Busheymum - do you know the ratio of acceptances to those that sit? I have heard 1 to 4??

Yes runmammarun all siblings will be offered a place but if the school feels that they have only been offered a place because they are a sibling then the parents will be told that.

The 1 to 4 ratio is correct...but for some parents Manor Lodge is a 'back up' either to another preferred private or state school. In the past they have over offered but I think they learnt their lesson from 2012 when parents were none to pleased about an extra class being added.

Hi Runmummarun, you are correct, they have 32 siblings this year and every single one will be offered a place, regardless of their "performance" at the Assessment, they will be advised if their kid didn't cut it but will not be refused a place. Letters were posted today so should be on your mat tomorrow!! They also will ensure that they offer less this year than the bulk year but on the plus side, at least you can be confident in a school that would rather do another class than have a class size of 27+ Good luck!

Sorry to hear that assessmentmum. Which other schools are you considering?

I think it was about 150 children in total including the 32 siblings.

Sorry assessment Mum to hear about ML Hmm but congrats on Edge grove! Edge Grove is a beautiful school and has a new head that is doing great things, I know lots of happy parents. Heard less good things about RP lately with the new head though so id be cautious and really consider Edge grove, always been great pastorally but now the academics are on the up as well, also grounds and lunches to be considered.
ML are looking for happy children with a willingness to learn but they were so limited on spaces this year with siblings you can't take it personally - am sure you lo will be happy wherever you end up!

As a parent of a child at RP, I find such negative comments about the new Head somewhat laughable. The school is, as ever, the same structure. The old Principal is still at the school. School reputations often appear to be sullied by those with children at other schools hearing absolute rubbish on the long and tangled grapevine. There is a new Principal in post, the older one has stepped back, rather than down.
How long do you suppose until the Head of ML will follow suit?

Not trying to be negative Mummyoftheyear, just offering school advice re Edge grove and RP. The fact is, Radlett Prep are getting a lot of stick lately and most of it is coming from existing parents, word of mouth is probably more useful a tool to judge a school than anything else, especially from those within that school! I am sure you are a very happy RP parent but the fact is there are many who are not.

Hmm
How odd that I haven't heard about it. I'll do some digging.

Report
Mummyoftheyear · 24/10/2013 12:27

Digging done. Everybody I know (through to Y6) is as happy as ever. Bizarre!

We have just withdrawn DD from the RP assessment tomorrow so there's one less person sitting. RP is a bit marmite I think and there are always people coming and going from these schools. Don't worry about what other people think, use your own judgement about what you are looking for.

Hi assessmentmum, its such a stressful time. Just to say wishing you the best of luck with it. Not sure if you have a little boy or little girl but St Margarets reg date is still open. Also Orley Farm which is mixed. Best of luck x

Awful headmaster at present. Massive staff turnover and poor sport. If your children are in any way interested in sport and after school activities don't choose this school. You will need to tutor your children to achieve the levels required at 11+
