End-of-year Reports

When should I expect to get school report. I was told that school had to give them to parents at least 3 weeks before the end of school year. Is that correct?

Varies by school I would think.

I've never had a report as much as 3 weeks before the end of term, so don't think that can be a requirement.

I've never heard that rule! My DC's school are giving them out on the 12th.

We are getting ours on the 12th. I am presuming they will contain the sats results too as haven't heard anything about those. Unless they keep them a state secret Grin

I am sure we've had ours with less than a week to go before.
This yr they are coming out less than 2 weeks before last day (12th, too).

The only requirement is to send them out by the end of the summer term:

Headteachers have discretion to:

decide when to issue the report to parents, as long as the minimum required information is sent to parents by the end of the summer term

My DC's will come home on the 15th.

My own school's are going out on Monday.

Ours get posted. Should be with us in the morning, long with class teacher allocations for next year (which everyone seems far more interested in Grin)

Report

We're getting ours on the 12th.

We had ours last week. Class and teacher lists next week, with SATS results.

We had ours today, ds (yr R) got exceeding in most categories, but is being kept in the composite yrR/yr1 group rather than the yr1/2 group just because he is a summer born :-/. he already does literacy and gets reading books from next class up so I was surprised.

We're getting DD2's next week, no idea re DD1.

Do schools have to give a report? DS moved to a new school last half term, school report envelopes came home today from new school, but his only contained phonics test results. I know he hasn't been there that long, but something from someone would be nice. I am hoping something will turn up later, but if a report is a compulsory requirement, then that gives me some hope!

We get ours on the Friday the week before school finishes which always coincides with exp's contact weekend so I get them unopened on Monday after school -nice that he's interested in his dc's reports eh?

They do have to - it would be very difficult to produce one for a recently arrived child though.

Report
lim1bd · 05/07/2013 22:26

I appreciate it would be hard to produce, but some sort of clue as to how he's doing would be useful. Settling in or not, areas of concern etc. Last school was rather vague to parents, but hopefully something was passed on to the new school (NC levels?). And he is there every day doing stuff. So I am hoping for a short statement of some sort, and it being compulsory reassures me. But I am not expecting an in depth analysis.

I think a chat with the teacher would be much better in your situation that any kind of written report - that's what I would rather do re a recently joined child.

Hi tryingtokeepintune:

Just to expand on what Feenie is suggesting.

HT can decide when to issue reports but the statutory guidance is that they have to give parents the opportunity to discuss these reports with teachers (i.e. you can't issue them on last day of school year and not allow parents opportunity to talk to teachers/ you can't issue SATs scores prior to thresholds being released on July 9th - which has been an issue we've been heatedly discussing elsewhere on MN & in real life here, where our school is attempting to do so & we've reported them to LEA).

GUIDANCE for 2012/ 2013 academic year here: www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/187455/Assessment_20and_20reporting_20arrangements_20-_20Key_20Stage_202.pdf.pdf

see page 38 on what information must be reported to parents.

We usually wait until we have end of Key Stage 2 test results before sending out reports
I've got 2 children who have been in my class 14 days and I'm afraid at this stage there isn't a great deal I can report.

don't know myself -but surely previous school (if educated within England) should have passed on data on the pupil which can feed into your school's report?

Do parents seriously expect you to produce as detailed a report for a pupil you've had for 14 days?

I know you say you deal a lot with travellers - I presume your school is aware of possibility of registration at more than one school - see section 12.3 page 39: www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/187455/Assessment_20and_20reporting_20arrangements_20-_20Key_20Stage_202.pdf.pdf - in such cases both schools prepare a report.

Our schools hand out reports at least 2 weeks before the end of term. We were told this was the minimum time required as parents needed time to respond if they wanted to.

I may be wrong but I think there is a minimum time that a child had to be at a school before the school is obliged to write a report. It may be summer half term.

Schools are supposed to send information but many don't. You only get a standard form with their name, unique reference number and their year 2 results. It's been about 3 years since I had a new child so it may have changed.
