What are the regulations on needing to employ another teacher if classes go over 30?

At the title says. If ICS appeal is won do schools have to employ am extra teacher in reception? Or the following year assuming all the children remain at the school and move into year 1? How do schools do this usually - split the class into two smaller classes or mix the year groups? It seems a lot of extra costs for the school for one additional child.

If the child is admitted as an "exception" then they do not have to employ another teacher in reception but they would have to in Y1 if the class remained in excess of 31

Mrz that changed in 2012 - they now remain an excepted pupil throughout the infant phase, so there is no longer a requirement to appoint another teacher in y1/2 if the class is still over 30.

Then how have I had 32 children in my year 1/2 class all year? My TA isn't (quite) full time either.

If two of them are "excepted" pupils then that is allowed now under the new 2012 class size regs

Agree with BetsyBoop about the new regs.

New pupils won't be admitted off waiting lists until the number drops to 29 though (unless they are also exceptions).
